The question of whether religion is growing or declining has long been debated by scholars. Although many people have contributed to this debate, there are not clear answers. Part of the problem is that the answer often depends on how you ‘measure’ religion, the time period you are observing, and the location. Given the different variables involved there is likely evidence to be found for both sides of the debate. This learning module will walk you through some trends in religious belief and practice for the last thirty years in the United States.
