New Learning Center for Students and Educators
In its continuing effort to provide innovative resources for exploring religion in the United States and abroad, the Association of Religion Data Archives (ARDA) is announcing the launch of a new Learning Center. The Learning Center provides a centralized location for a variety of resources that will be of use to instructors and students. You will find it located in the main menu across the top of the ARDA's website at www.thearda.com. The Learning Center will include all of our existing educational tools. This includes our downloadable Learning Modules that guide students through topics in the study of religion. For instance, our newest modules explore the complexities of studying religion, such as measuring "religiosity." Additional modules will be introduced in the future. We have also revised existing tools to make them more accessible to students. For example, the Learning Center will have an area where students can enter their zip code to find a Community Profile of religion in their community based on our membership reports. There will also be entirely new tools and resources. We are very excited about the new Compare Yourself tool, which allows students to answer a variety of questions concerning religious practice and belief to see how they compare to the population as a whole and to those demographically similar to themselves. The Learning Center will also contain a Glossary of Religion and Statistical Terms that will provide students clear explanations of commonly used terms whose meaning may not be so clear to others, such as 'adherent' and 'variable.' Educators will find the Learning Center to be a valuable tool for introducing the ARDA's data and tools to their students, but this does not mean that it is only for teachers and students. We have designed the Learning Center to be a user-friendly gateway to the ARDA's content. This is only the beginning of the Learning Center. We are already working on additional tools and resources that we will add in the near future. As with all of the ARDA's resources, we welcome your feedback concerning the new Learning Center. If you have ideas for new features in the Center or would like to contribute a learning module or other resource, then please contact us at arda@pop.psu.edu. |
