Basic Information

The Presbyterian Church in the United States arose out of the same controversies which had split the Methodists and Baptists in the years prior to the Civil War. It was started by Southern presbyteries that withdrew from the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. to form the Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States (later changed to Presbyterian Church in the U.S.).
