Description
Carl McIntire was a student of conservative Presbyterian J. Gresham Machen at Princeton Theological Seminary, and even followed Machen and other conservatives to Westminster Theological Seminary. After graduating from Westminster in 1931 and then becoming an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., both McIntire and Machen disputed the supposed "liberal" orientation of the church’s missions. This eventually led to the formation of Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Despite conservatives finally having their own Presbyterian church, McIntire and Machen began to have conflicts. McIntire was a true fundamentalist, who believed in dispensational premillennialism and abstinence from alcohol. As a result, McIntire left the group in 1937 and founded the Bible Presbyterian Church.

McIntire continued pushing for fundamentalism through various means, including the Conservative Christian Council (1941), the International Council of Christian Churches (1948), and the daily radio broadcast of "Twentieth-Century Reformation Hour" (1957). Although his influence dissipated by the 1980s, McIntire was considered an influential fundamentalist within American Presbyterianism.
