Description
Rick Warren came from a long line of Southern Baptist pastors. After graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary, he turned down an offer to pastor a large Texas church in order to establish a church in Southern California’s Saddleback Valley (1980). Saddleback Church grew from 205 members its first service to more than 20,000 three decades later.

During this time, he wrote popular Christian books on faith, evangelism, and ministry. His 1995 book The Purpose-Driven Church served as a ministry aid to pastors and subsequently was translated into 20 languages. His follow-up book entitled The Purpose-Driven Life (2002) targeted a lay audience and emphasized God’s pleasure and plans for people. It became a New York Times best seller as it reached sales of more than 30 million copies by 2007.

Rick Warren has influenced presidents like George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Warren even delivered the invocation at President Obama’s inauguration.
