Original Survey (Instrument)

Brazil Religion Survey Questionnaire

Collection Procedures

5700 people were interviewed in 236 municipalities in the following states: São Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande Do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Bahia, Alagoas, Sergipe, Ceará, Federal District, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande of the North, Piauí, Maranhão, Goiás, Tocantins, Pará, Acre, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Amazonas, and Rondônia.

Sampling Procedures

The research of Datafohla uses a stratified random sample with quotas based on sex and age and random sampling of individuals. The population is Brazilians 16 years old and older. This universe is divided into four sub-universes: the Southern, Southeastern, Northeastern and North/Center-Western regions of Brazil. In each sub-universe, municipalities were selected randomly with probability proportional to size. As a result, this survey is representative for Brazil, for the four regions and for municipalities within certain statistical limits. The margin of error for this sampling procedure is plus or minus 2 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level. This means that if 100 surveys were conducted with the same methodology, 95 of the results would be inside of the margin of error.
