Description
Bill McCartney, head football coach at University of Colorado at Boulder, founded Promise Keepers as an organization for Christian men to regain their natural and divinely ordered leadership role in the home and society. When visiting a Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet in Pueblo, Colorado, Coach McCartney envisioned a large revival among Christian men who would “stand for God in their marriages, families, churches, and communities.”

The name “Promise Keepers” comes from the Seven Promises that the organization espouses: honoring Jesus Christ, upholding Christian discipleship, practicing purity, building strong families, financially supporting the organization’s mission, overcoming racial and denominational barrier, and influencing the world.

It has directly reached more than six million men through over 200 stadium, arena, and church events. Though its popularity has dwindled over time, Promise Keepers remains an active ministry for Christian men.
