Description: The Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ formed in 2001 from congregations in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America who could not endorse the "Called to Common Mission" statement adopted by the ELCA in cooperation with the Episcopal Church. While not created to be an independent denomination, it became one and is congregational in polity. Today, the denomination consists of over 900 congregations in countries across the globe.
